Collide*A*Scope

*Collaborates with artists, organizations, and individuals to create art and foster community.
*Coordinates an annual art and community festival
The heart of Collide*A*Scope is to be a connection place for artists, organizations and communities; a place where art is celebrated, relationships are built and communities are strengthened. There are three main components to Collide*A*Scope; Art, Education, and Community.
The spearhead of Collide*A*Scope is the creation and celebration of art. Our annual festival will include productions by a variety of professional performing artists and companies; theater, dance, spoken word, music and film to name a few.
We also desire to have a strong visual arts component to the festival. This may include commissioning original works, showing work of visual artists and promoting collaborations between visual and performing artists.
For the artists, presenting work in Collide*A*Scope will greatly reduce the production costs for artists and companies involved, increasing their likelihood of earning a sustainable income and remaining viable in the long term. In addition, they will have the benefit of working alongside other artists and companies, sharing ideas and supporting each other through the challenges of creating and producing work.
We desire to nurture the creative gifts in youth and adults by providing quality arts classes and workshops available to the public during the annual festival. As this aspect grows we will provide classes and workshops in a variety of disciplines. Some possible offerings include improvisation, acting, dance, creative writing, a Hip Hop Academy, and classes and workshops in visual arts. We desire these classes to be accessible and high quality.
Making all of this possible is the community that is formed around Collide*A*Scope; a community of people from North Minneapolis, as well as those from other parts of the city and the suburbs. A great way to break down walls of division is to spend time together. During the festival we will have specific “Community Nights.” These will be events open to the public and free of charge that are designed for people to mix and get to know each other. There may be a panel discussion on relevant topics, a movie night, a showcase of performances, or a variety of other activities.
As it’s name suggests, Collide*A*Scope will be made by the individual components involved, by the unique and diverse offerings of artists, organizations and individuals all seeking to find the place of connection where the many parts make a beautiful and colorful whole.
Collide*A*Scope is a program of SPARK theater + dance in partnership with the Sanctuary Community Development Corporation.
